The Unwired Experience

Unwired pioneered wireless broadband delivery in Australia and is an acknowledged global leader in wireless broadband operational management expertise.

With over 74,000 customers (and counting) it has proven a huge success in the market, partly through the efficiencies delivered by ubowireless.

Two years ago, and just 12 months into launch, Unwired began experiencing the sort of problems that go hand in hand with the growth of a popular new network. Help Desk was frustrated at being unable to fully solve customer issues and operators and network engineers found that, while the network generated information, it could not be translated and collated fast enough to be meaningful.

Some base stations were straining under the pressure of an increased customer base while others sat idle. New infrastructure was being constantly added but the network was hard to manage. Clearly, future growth and current customer retention depended on solving these issues, and fast.

With the introduction of ubowireless onto the system, problems began to dissipate quickly. Previously intractable problems became simple to solve. Network performance was optimised and interference minimised.

Help Desk reported a dramatic reduction in customer contact and those calls that remained were solved in one call rather than two or three. Customer call handling times dropped 40% and churn dropped 30% (and is still falling). Help Desk staff numbers remained the same while Unwired doubled their customer base, even in a booming market.

Unwired saw substantial improvements to its ROI, capital savings of over $7million and operational expenditure was reduced by $600k per annum just by making more efficient use of the existing network.

David SpenceDavid is all about sustainable growth.

Since joining Unwired in 2004, David has grown the company from a handful of employees into one of the world's largest non-line-of-sight wireless broadband carriers.

Previous to that, he oversaw the spectacular fortunes of ISP OzEmail as MD, COO then CEO during the internet's stellar boom period of 1995 to 2000.

David is a past Chairman of Australia's key internet industry group, the Internet Industry Association.

He has held executive and board positions at many Australian publicly listed companies.

Eric Hamilton
Unwired Chief Technical Officer

Eric HamiltonIn his 30 year career, Eric has mastered wireless, telecommunications and networks at every level.

As Vice President of Networks at OzEmail, he was responsible for growing and maintaining the national IP network to efficiently support and manage the needs of over 200,000 unique customers.

As Director of IP Networks and Director of e-Technology at Optus he helped oversee the development of the Optus IP network and the infrastructure needed to support a broad range of applications and content.

As CTO, Eric also helped Heartland Communications provide effective satellite based IP and voice services to remote customers. In addition, Eric has been a consultant to Request, Commander, Ericsson and Vytel.

He also boasts 9 years experience with Telstra, Australia's largest communications company, time which includes experience in international communications through OTC and multimedia delivery and Telstra's first ISP through On Australia.

Eric holds a Bachelor of Engineering with 1st Class Honours and a PhD in Electrical Engineering, both from the University of Canterbury.
